I gave a radio interview with WAKR (93.5 FM/ 1590 AM) about my research on romantic gift sharing on social media. In this study, we compared Asians and Western participants and examine their likelihood of sharing romantic gifts on social media. We found that interdependent self construals (Asians) are more likely to share romantic gifts on Facebook and Instagram, but not on Twitter.

We found that the motivations driving interdependents’ behavior also changed with the platform: they posted gifts on Facebook because they felt the gifts portrayed their self-identity among peers, while posting on Instagram was driven by a desire to flaunt their social status.

WZIP-FM is a student-run radio at the University of Akron. I gave an interview about the free Thai cooking class that we started during COVID stay-at-home order and how it has now become a monthly Thai cooking class with about 50-90 participants in one class.

I was asked by Wallethub.com to give expert’s comments on the Capital One Savor Case Rewards credit card on why bonus credit card rewards for dining and entertainment are becoming increasingly more popular among Americans. This is line with my research on experiential and material gifts/consumption.

The Department of Student Life Campus Programs at the University of Akron celebrated the Senior Week virtually by having multiple social media challenges. One of them was asking the graduating seniors to shout-out their favorite faculty member(s) or staff or campus. One of my students gave me a shout-out for this challenge. It feels so rewarding to be recognized by the students outside the classroom and to know that I have impact on their experience at the University of Akron.
